My name is Jeff Gillam and welcome to Open Door Studios. Just a brief synopsis of the personal side of me that forms the creative works that you see. I am a happily married man and the father of two daughters. We all reside outside of Bastrop, Texas on 10 acres of land in an area known as the Lost Pines of Texas. I have obtained a B.A. in Fine Arts with a concentration in Music. This background has enabled me to gain an appreciation in all forms of art and the creative process and I like to think that I leave a bit of this with each project I do regardless of how diverse they may be.

Open Door Studios was formed in 1996 as the result of the selling of a long time partnership with a company named Deep in the Heart Art Foundry, Inc. During this time, I have attained notoriety for and a love of the art form called patina. This is hard work but is also quite a joy for me to do. I do enjoy watching the creation unfold, experiencing the spontaneity, and seeing colors do their part in showing my intent as an artist within each piece that I do. Over the years I have created patinas for some of the foremost artists in the county. These artists include Bob Guelich, Edd Hayes(Texas State Sculptor), Ray Harryhausen, Troy Kelly, Bill McGlaun, Cindy Debold, Terry and Cindy Burleson, and Marian Waldrip, just to name a few. To help support the creation of art works, I have embarked on a career in carpentry and wood joinery, which I have found equally satisfying and rewarding.

As a natural progression, I have been formulating ideas that incorporate wood and patinaed bronze when combined, form functional and artistic pieces of furniture. This for me is the ultimate collaboration of two worlds coming together to form one soul, so to speak. With this information you have read, I hope you can appreciate my art and work fuller and also the love and skill that is put into each piece.

Thank you,

Jeff Gillam
